Tube Runner
Tube Runner started out as an extension to an existing tutorial I found online. The premise of the game is simple, guide an avatar around an endless, swirling tube system, whilst avoiding obstacles and gradually building up speed until your inevitable collision!
The tutorial explained how to generate a pipe system and spawn objects within it. I already had knowledge of spawning objects and character movement within my game world from previous projects so it was easy to hit the ground running with this one.
From the initial shell we were presented with in the tutorial I saw an opportunity to expand the game in to my first fully fledged Mobile Application. Following Google's own guide on their Code Labs website I was able to integrate full Google Play Services into Tube Runner within a week: Signing-In, Saved Games, Leaderboards and even Achievements are fully functional; this was a project I was very proud of having built it up in such a short amount of time! |
This initial, rather small project served as a great exercise to expand my existing skill set into new territories and practice some already rather well established areas as well. From the initial tutorial I added in a Pause button, Power-ups, Full UI Menu (including Signing-In, Leaderboard Viewing, Credits, Options Menu, Mute Buttons for SFX & Music), Death Animation and of course the suite of add-ons available through Google Play Services, and now I have my very own app playable on any Android Mobile Device around the world! May it be the first of many!
Tube Runner in Action
Here is a gameplay video of the Tube Runner Demo that I've published on Youtube. The game is fully integrated with its own Sound and Music so please ensure your volume is suitably up!
